Flamingo facts, links and interesting stories

When I started this, I wasn't sure that there really were any truly interesting stories about flamingos.  However, in 2003 West Newton became the Flamingo Capital of the world thanks to the other West Newton Flamingo Lady, Jill Hunter.

History of the Pink Flamingo lawn ornament

The pink flamingo was created in 1957 by Don Featherstone  a design school graduate.  (He probably could not have done it without the higher education.)  Don worked at Union Products, right here in Leominster, Massachusetts.  For his efforts, Don won the Ig® Nobel Prize in 1996.

Jill Hunter unwittingly started the Flamingo Frenzy last winter in West Newton when she put 16 pairs of pink flamingos on her West Newton Lawn.
